Real Madrid dominated the match from the start and goalkeeper Iker Casillas only touched the ball once in the first 45 minutes. The Spanish defender Sergio Ramos opened the scoring with a header in a corner kick. It was his third goal in a final with Los Merengues, after doing it in the Spanish Super Cup and Champions League.
In the second half, the white team defined the game after a mistake from goalkeeper Sebastian Torrico, who could not hold a soft shot from the Welsh Gareth Bale. The referee allowed many blows of the Argentine team, so it was not a match with many emotions.
With the win, Real Madrid became the second Spanish team to win the title, joining Barcelona. The Blaugranas did it in 2009 against Estudiantes de la Plata in UAE and also in 2011 against Santos in Japan.
Los Merengues continued the domain of European teams in this tournament by winning it for the seventh time. It was the third defeat for an Argentine team in the final, joining Boca Juniors (2007) and Estudiantes (2009). The four South American titles have been for Brazilian squads.
The Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo won the competition for the second time in his career. In 2008, he helped Manchester United and finished with a goal, which got against Gamba Osaka of Japan. In this edition, he did not get any but helped with some assists.
Real Madrid closed 2014 with a new trophy and will continue as the best team in the world nowadays.
