Samuel Etoo Everton Success? Everton boss Roberto Martinez reckons that new striker Samuel Etoo will give his side the X-Factor and football betting info site FC Bodog is keen to see if it’s true!
The 33-year-old Cameroon striker was released by Chelsea over the summer and has penned a two-year deal with the Merseysiders. Everton betting odds.
On paper it gives Everton some solid looking striking options with Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Christian Atsu and soon-to-return Arouna Kone.
But many football judges say they are not convinced about Etoo’s appetite for the game as he picks up what will almost certainly be one last big pay day in the EPL.
At Chelsea last season the Cameroon player, whose age was jokingly questioned by manager Jose Mourinho, looked a shadow of the man who once terrorised defences for Real Mallorca, Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Although he certainly enjoyed some high points. And the stats paint a picture of a striker who can still score goals at the highest level – he scored nine times in the EPL last season in 21 appearances. However, it must be said that he would have scored many more were his finishing skills as sharp as they once were.
A hat-trick against Man Utd caught the eye, although it could be argued that scoring three against the Red Devils isn’t quite what it used to be.
Everton do not dominate sides in the manner that Chelsea do so it may well be that the Cameroonian will get less chances in front of goal.
Online sportsbooks are offering 7.00 odds that he finishes as Everton’s top scorer this season, behind 1.80 Lukaku but ahead of Steven Naismith 10.00, Mirallas 15.00 and Seamus Coleman 21.00.
“When you see him on the team sheet you know the unpredictable play he has. Now we can enjoy the talent and that fear factor from Samuel,” said Everton manager Martinez.
“His emotional state and mental focus was impressive. There is a real desire and hunger to achieve. He’s desperate to create good moments in the British game.”
If Martinez is proved correct about the “hunger” then Everton have landed a bargain but it’s hard to see him improving on his record with Chelsea another 12 months on. If you think he will score over 12.5 EPL goals this season the odds are 4.50.
And as coincidence would have it Samuel Etoo could be set to make his debut against Chelsea this weekend! He is 2.75 odds to score against his old side.
