Liverpool FA Cup Odds Steer Clear! The bookies fancy the Reds to come through their quarter-final against Blackburn Rovers but football betting tips site FC Bodog isn’t so sure.
The best price you will get about Brendan Rodgers’ side winning the match in 90 minutes is 1.66 but Liverpool must attempt to achieve that with three of their most influential players – Steven Gerrard, Martin Skrtel and Emre Can.
Failure to progress to the semi-finals would be a disaster for Liverpool. They are almost certain to miss out on a top four spot that would secure them Champions League football next season and the FA Cup remains their only hope of landing any silverware this season.
It’s so hard to make a case for Liverpool to win the game given how well Rovers shut them out at Anfield in the first match between these two. And in towering striker Rudy Geste they have a man who can cause real problems in the air for the Reds’ defence, particularly as they will have to cope without Skrtel.
We can expect to see the home side – backed by their biggest crowd for years pump plenty of balls in the Liverpool area. Will Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet cope with that kind of threat? The former Sunderland man has looked more afraid of crosses than Count Dracula himself this season.
Rovers have already taken care of Premier League sides Stoke City and Swansea at Ewood Park this season – albeit both teams had men sent off in those fixtures – but they are clearly a tough nut to crack in Lancashire.
Liverpool’s confidence levels are low right now after their 4-1 mauling at the Emirates and there has been talk of in-fighting between Rodgers and the rest of his dressing room. At least two senior players, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson, have yet to publicly commit themselves to the club and there is no question that Rodgers faces a crisis if they don’t win here.
The manager was said to have accused his players of not playing for him after the loss at Arsenal. FC Bodog understands that an argument broke out at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex when the players refused to accept his criticism.
When quizzed at his latest conference about whether the rumours were true he replied: “I’ve heard that this morning. It is something you can’t help. We have lots of meetings here in terms of analysing performance and it was no different to a whole host of meetings we have all year. Those meetings helped us recover from the bad start we had to win 10 games out of 13.
“It was nothing really, it was just analysing performance, analysing where we are at and then feeding forward to the players. With seven games to go and an FA Cup quarter-final the objectives we can clearly achieve between now and the end of the season. It is just unfortunate something else was made up.
“I have a great bunch of players here who tirelessly every single day give me everything and you can see that in how we play. We might be short in terms of several elements but in terms of the commitment and work ethic that is pretty clear and has been since I’ve been here.”
Our view is that Rodgers has a serious problem inside the Liverpool dressing room. Steve Gerrard, the club’s only leader, departs to LA Galaxy at the end of the season and with characters such as Sterling, Henderson and Balotelli becoming more prominent Liverpool face big problems.
Steer well clear of those Liverpool FA Cup odds.
