After dominating the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 encounter in Kiev, Manchester City look to win its first tournament of the season, when taking on Liverpool at the Capital One Cup Final, this Sunday, February 28, at 16:30 at Wembley Stadium.
This match means the world for both teams. For City, it is the opportunity to shake off every critic after two weeks where they seemed lost in their game. For Liverpool is the chance to get a ticket to next year’s Europa League.
City showed their best game in a long time in the 1-3 victory over Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday. They controlled the pace of the match and leaned the series towards their favors in a big way. It will take an awful day for the Citizens to lose their ticket to the next round in the Champions League.
“It is a very important result but nothing is finished. The worst thing for us is to think we’ve already done everything after a 3-1 away win. It’s important to understand that we face a big team in Dynamo Kyiv. Now we have more chance of reaching the next round but we need to play well in the second leg”, said manager Manuel Pellegrini.
The Capital One Cup Odds Liverpool v Manchester City have the Citizens as favorites, paying 2.25 for their victory while Liverpool’s pays 3.1. The draw was listed at 3.4.
City know they can’t be overconfidence about this. They were hammered at home by Liverpool back in November, losing 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Back then the Reds had all the momentum going their way because of the chance of coach, and the arrival of Jürgen Klopp; they don’t anymore.
Liverpool have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions, drawing four times and losing another two. They are just five points away from Manchester United’s fifth place in the EPL, but their inconsistency is giving them too many problems.
“If you let them play how they want, you have no chance,” Klopp said about facing Manchester City. “You have to disturb their build-up play.”
The Argentinean Sergio Aguero is the favorite in the Capital One Cup Odds to score the first goal of the match; he’s listed at 4.75 to do so. Daniel Sturridge, who has struggled all season, is at 6.5, joined by Wilfried Bony.
The match will have a lot of intensity in speed and pace, but in the end, Manchester City should prevail. Take City to lift the League Cup.
